The forklift is a material handling machine utilized to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each forklift component has a specific function. Various components could be utilized to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components which lift and lower the load. There are various types of masts utilized for raising loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located in the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the biggest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, which are located at the rear so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
