Forklift Battery Safety
The power to operate electric forklifts is supplied by big industrial batteries which need to be charged regularly and maintained properly. Safety procedures must be followed when somebody connects the battery to the charger. It is really essential to inspect battery fluid levels.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
Eye protection is vital for anybody working with a lift truck battery. Complete protection comprises safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The best way to protect both skin and clothing from leaked acid or other residue is to wear thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
Next to the charging place must be an emergency eyewash post. The path to the station must not be obstructed and an employee who is injured must be able to reach the eyewash post from the charging area in 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It must be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
When near a battery and charging area, open fire are prohibited. Do not allow items such as matches or lighters to be utilized while someone is inspecting the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
The battery charging place also needs to be properly ventilated. The recharging method can release gas. These fumes are both explosive and poisonous.
