During the year 1966, Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries. At that time, he bought the manufacturing rights to a material lift that operated on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" that was utilized to raise and lower the hoist. This mechanism greatly impressed lots of clients and thus, the name was established.
Genie expanded operations and established itself into various new markets, as the demand for work lifts and platforms grew. Over time, as the requirements for new machinery to meet many applications grew, the company made itself known in numerous new markets. For example, Genie went into production with stick booms, telehandlers, man-lifts, articulated booms and light towers.
Genie decided to secure a partner who had the same values as a result of the economic recession in the beginning of the 2000s, when they partnered with Terex. This company has a history acquiring equipment manufacturers across the globe who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold during 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
During the first years after the sale, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name within the Terex Aerial Work Platforms or AWP segment of Terex, due to the name's solid reputation within the marketplace. Hence, all Genie machines continue to be marketed under the Genie brand.
The company takes great pride in taking advice from and listening to their clients. Genie has always been continually dedicated to improving the quality and efficiency in addition to minimizing wastes. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on offering outstanding support. These are the very work practices which have made Genie a trusted brand over the past decades and continue to keep their reputation for top-of-the-line and quality equipment.
Genie's Bi-Energy and DC equipment are emission-free, quiet equipment capable of working in delicate work settings. Where the equipment needs to be driven significant distances, like in industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the power of a diesel-powered generator together with the advantages of a 48V DC machinery.
As opposed to any of the different types of aerial platforms, telescopic booms provide more horizontal reach overall. These machines are ideal for limited access areas in construction and other industrial settings. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been designed to offer utmost productivity. These equipment deliver supreme traction and the drive speed you need to be able to travel around the job area and work site.
